The Sunday Ritual: Preserving Your Collection
Apr 19, 2025
Owning a piece of luxury requires a shift in mindset. We are conditioned to treat products as disposable—use them, wear them out, replace them. A Paulina bag demands a relationship. It is a living material, skin, that reacts to the elements, your touch, and the environment.
To ensure your bag serves you for a lifetime, we recommend adopting a simple "Sunday Ritual."
1. The Wipe Down Dust is abrasive. Over time, microscopic dust particles settle into the grain of the leather and act like sandpaper, drying it out. Once a week, simply wipe your bag with a dry, soft, white cotton cloth. No water, no chemicals. Just a gentle dusting to let the pores breathe.
2. The Resting Period Leather needs to rest. If you carry the same bag every day, the weight of your essentials will eventually distort the silhouette. Rotate your collection. When a bag is not in use, stuff it with acid-free tissue paper (never newspaper, as the ink transfers) to maintain its architectural shape.
3. Understanding Water Our leathers are vegetable-tanned, meaning they are open-pored. If you get caught in the rain, do not panic and do not rub. Rubbing drives the water deeper into the fibers. Instead, blot the droplets gently with a soft cloth and let the bag dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a hairdryer or place it near a radiator; heat causes leather to shrink and crack.
4. Embrace the Marks Your bag will scratch. It will darken. It will change. Do not fear this. In the world of high-end leather, a pristine, untouched bag is considered "soulless." The scratches eventually buff out into a gloss, and the sun spots blend into a rich tan. These are not defects; they are the chapters of your story.
